Below is our pictorial recipe for Liver Cake. It is very easy to make and no dog will refuse it. Best of all, you know exactly what is in it and there are definitely no "E" numbers. Whilst this was made with Lambs Liver it works equally well with Pigs, Ox or Chicken livers. You can also use Hearts, Tuna, Mackerel or Pilchards.
You can also include some pre cooked vegetables, carrots or broccoli for example but would need to adjust the quantity of flour.
Approx 1lb / 454g of Liver.
7oz / 200g Strong Wholemeal Flour
2 or 3 fresh eggs (depending on size)
Approx 3 cloves of Garlic (smelly is good).
Put the Liver, Eggs, Garlic and a splash of Milk
in your food processor / blender and blitz..
End result will look like this.
Mix fully with the flour to a stiff consistency,
add a little more milk if needed
Line a roasting tin with foil and brush on a little oil
we use a tin measuring 30cm x 22cm.
Pour in to roasting tin.
Spread as evenly as possible.
Place in the middle of your oven
Preheated to approx 190c / 375f / Gas 5.
After around 20 minutes your liver cake should be done
and slightly springy to the touch..
Take out and leave to cool.
We find it best to cut while still slightly warm
We get around 180 treats from each batch.
This liver cake freezes very well giving your dogs a regular supply of good quality, low cost treats although it may not last long enough to make it to the freezer.
